The Integrated Transport Centre (ITC), part of Abu Dhabi’s Department of Municipalities and Transport and operating under the Smart and Autonomous Systems Council, has announced the expansion of autonomous taxi services on Yas Island. The move is part of the Emirate’s broader plan to scale autonomous mobility, enhance operator diversity, and strengthen operational readiness.
The expansion is delivered in collaboration with Apollo Go, a subsidiary of China’s Baidu, with Autogo (a subsidiary of K2) joining as a local operator. The commercial rollout follows successful testing and trials of Level 4 autonomous taxis on Yas Island. ITC plans to extend the service in the future to Al Reem Island, Al Maryah Island, and Al Saadiyat Island, with rides accessible through the “AutoGo” app on both Android and Apple devices.
H.E. Hamad Adel Al Afeefi, Executive Director of the Intelligent Transportation Systems Sector at ITC, said the addition of a new operator “represents a pivotal step in regulating and developing Abu Dhabi’s smart mobility ecosystem. It reinforces the Emirate’s position as a leading destination for advanced technologies while maintaining the highest safety and efficiency standards.”
Waleed Alblooshi, Vice President of Strategy at K2, highlighted that offering free rides during the initial phase allows the public to experience autonomous mobility firsthand, paving the way for organised commercial operations in the next phase. More
