Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority announced on Tuesday its latest initiative, the Glydways system, during its participation at the World Governments Summit 2026.
The new system will revolutionize urban mobility with a network of small, self-driving electric vehicles that will operate on narrow, dedicated tracks to avoid traffic impact.
This efficient system can transport over 10,000 passengers per hour in each direction.
These self-driving electric vehicles have a capacity of 4 to 6 passengers and can operate at a speed of 50 km/h, with a range of up to 250 kilometers.
The Glydways system introduces a new category of public transit: a disaggregated system of small, electric, autonomous vehicles that deliver private, on-demand ride. With no transfers, no shared rides and no delays from traffic, it connects people from where they are to where they need to go. Because it operates on narrow, dedicated guideways, it is 90 percent cheaper than rail, making it affordable to build, operate and scale in cities around the world.

In 2025, Abu Dhabi Investment Office (ADIO) signed a strategic partnership with Glydways, Inc. to explore the deployment of its innovative transit systems across Abu Dhabi.
The collaboration will see ADIO and Glydways jointly develop an initial project featuring Glydways’ innovative high-capacity system, a revolutionary approach to mass transit that uses autonomous electric vehicles operating on dedicated guideways to deliver on-demand, zero-emissions urban mobility powered by Glydways’ own AI platform: Glydways OS.
